Hi Shandy, Spaulding Gray has a taupe undertone, so I would look for lighter shades of taupe for your trim color. Let me know if I can help further through an Interior Color Consultation. I needed a 12" downrod assembly to match the brush nickel finish of my Fanimation Spitfire fan housing assembly please see my review for the Fanimation Spitfire. I have 10 ' ceilings and the Fanimation only comes with a very short downrod assembly which is not suitable for high ceilings. The color match was spot on to the fan assembly.
Unlike some other downrods, I liked that the finished was baked on and impervious to typical scratches that can occur when installing a fan. I have had a bad experience with another fan manufacture that didn't do this on their downrod assemblies and instead only seemed to powder coat the downrod. I found these other downrods to scratch easily as you adjusted cover plates and set screws. That was definitely not the case in this scenario. I am not sure how this downrod will work for fans other than the Fanimation Spitfire.
While it works great for the Fanimation, it will not work for many fans that you may purchase. I recommend that you check your requirements against this product before you buy if you plan to use with other than a Fanimation Spitfire. I checked Fanimation's website before purchasing to ensure fit before I purchased.
The ends are NOT threaded which some fans require. So if you need a downrod that is threaded on each end, then avoid this one. The downrod does have holes on each end for pins which is how the Spitfire is assembled.
If you need something different for your fan, then avoid this downrod. The outside diameter is 1" and there is ample room for running all necessary wires from the fan assembly to the ceiling wiring. The only real downside is that I think this downrod is a bit more pricey than similar products available from other manufactures, but if you go with another manufacture you risk the colors not matching or the downrod being incompatible. I went with this particular product since the Fanimation website claimed that this was certified to work with the Fanimation Spitfire and it does.
If you're not using this downrod for a Fanimation fan that requires it, you may want to check for a cheaper alternative that meets your particular needs. In hindsight, I should have sanded all the cabinets. After using them for a month now, I noticed that the sanded cabinets was able to grip on the paint much better.
Also it was easier to paint the sanded cabinets; the bottom ones tended to form those tiny bubbles much easier. Also scratched the bottom ones on a couple of occasion with finger nails or pesky little pointy objects like forks etc I touched them up and all is good now, but I really do think this is due to me not prepping it correctly. Some of these tips may have been already given by other reviewers but being this was my first cabinet pain project, these were most helpful in completing the project i.
Make sure not put too much paint on it, especially at the beginning. It will form bubles and creat that "water spot" look once those bubbles pop and paint dries - I have found that the sponge roller made for cabinets and smooth surfaces work a little better with this. If anything you can do first coat with the one in the kit, and put the top coat with the foam.
Also for corners, the brush work ok, but I have found those black foam ones are easier to work with. While I was at it, I added a rolling island in the kitchen, and the bamboo color stuck out like a sore thumb. So I painted it with the same Nuvo paint. Looks great and matches well. I plan on painting another old cabinet we bought from someone online.
Definitely will be sanding it before putting this paint on. All in all, I am satisfied with the product and this color went really well with my new wall color. This kit makes things easy. The painting goes by fast and I really like this greige color.
As far as application, I had just moved in and didn't get the two tone color I wanted. In one night thanks to prime shipping , I got it myself. This color really tied in the walls, backslash, counter top and floor.
I only used one of the two cans because I only wanted to paint the lower cabinets.. This is the second Paint Kit I have purchased in the last 2 months. Its like a miracle paint. We used it on cabinets that we thought we would have to replace. They turned out beautiful! I previously used Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations on a prior renovation. Decided to give this a try as I preferred the color selections of Nuvo.
However, after trying both products I prefer Rustoleum over Nuvo. First of all, you have to sand the cabinets down with Nuvo whereas with rustoleum you just use the included deglosser which I happened to have leftover so I also used in this process. No topcoat is included, which I think is a mistake as there have been quite a few dings and marks made, even after a month of the house being vacant and curing time. We will see how it holds up over time.
Our previous cabinets lasted 3 years without chipping. The paint is very thin and does not hide brush strokes. We used a sprayer but any touchups are very visible with the brush. The roller in the kit leaves a bubbly finish. Love the fact that you can buy quarts of the Nuvo paint alone without purchasing a whole kit as you would have to with Rustoleum. All in all, the kitchen looks awesome but next time I will go back to Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations.
This paint is incredible! I can look up directions and figure out how to fix up mostly anything in my home, but I usually make quite a few mistakes along the way because I tend to cut corners and refuse to fully learn the concept of "measure twice, cut once.
Thank goodness for wood filler and a drill, and Amazon 2 day shipping to receive the correct hinges! The only thing I didn't mess up was the painting! They included a paint brush, stir, and some other things I can't recall now They also had excellent instructions along with some great tips that, had I not followed them, I would've had to go back and redo many of the steps.
I did sand everything first, and painted 3 layers. My top cabinets were white, and the bottom was made up of 3 different types and colors of brown wood the past owners really did a great job there. It covered all of the paint exactly the same, both dark brown AND white, and there is no difference in shade now!! I am SO impressed!
